Clattering, rattling, clanging, knocking, grinding and vibration can cross engine, exhaust, clutch, chain, wheel, brake, tyre, suspension, body and electric-drive systems. Start with danger, then separate when and where the behavior occurs.
Stop / move away / no restart or charging for smoke, fire, raw fuel, a visible leak near heat, severe burning smell, melting, arcing or severe electrical damage. Stop normal riding / use safe recovery for a brake, steering, tyre, wheel or handling change. Stop / do not restart or force for severe knock or grinding, locking, a hard stop or loss of drive.
Keep hands and tools away: never touch hot or moving parts to locate a noise, use a screwdriver as a stethoscope, run the motorcycle in gear on a stand, coast with the engine off, or perform a risky road test.
No universal threshold: this guide publishes no decibel, RPM, road-speed or “normal vibration” number. Compare observable before-and-after behavior and exact-model inspection findings, not another motorcycle or an online sound clip.

Noise at idle

Noise changes with engine speed
Record whether the change was already observed under ordinary operation. Do not rev repeatedly while stopped or ride harder to reproduce it. Engine, exhaust, intake, guards and fasteners can overlap.
Clutch, gear or takeoff change
A change with the lever, gear selection or takeoff helps define a clutch/control/transmission/load route. It does not prove plates, a basket, bearing or gear. Unintended movement, hard shifting, locking or grinding stops normal use.
Road-speed change
Tyre, wheel, spokes, pressure, brake, chain/sprocket, guards, body and suspension can overlap. Do not coast with the engine off or release control to isolate the sound.
Braking noise or vibration
Use the brake and wheel safety route. Weakness, pulling, grabbing, long travel, heat, leakage, grinding or control pulsation requires inspection before normal riding.
Rattle over bumps
Body, stand, exhaust, guards, fasteners, suspension, luggage, wheel and impact history can overlap. Do not “tighten everything” without exact torque, condition and component identity.
Handlebar, seat or footrest vibration
Record engine speed, road speed, load, road surface, tyre/wheel condition, braking, chain and recent work. This page gives no universal normal-vibration threshold or parts verdict.

Honda strange-engine-sound checklist
Honda lists clattering, rattling, clanging, knocking and other sounds as engine-check observations and recommends shop-staff inspection rather than a sound-word diagnosis.
Honda says pre-ride checks help detect unusual behavior before it worsens; usage, rough roads, load, suspension, chain, tyres and brakes affect the inspection context.
Honda says chain damage can affect operation and ride quality and requires checks for movement, damage, slack and sprocket condition using exact-model guidance.

What should I do if my CD70 engine is knocking or rattling?
Stop for severe knock, grinding, locking, power loss, smoke, leakage, heat or burning smell. Otherwise record cold/warm, idle/moving, engine speed, clutch position, apparent location and recent work. The sound does not prove one part.
Can tick, tak, khat khat or vibration identify a fault?
No. Sound words and feel are subjective and several systems overlap. Use them to structure physical inspection, not to name or replace a part.
Why does noise change with the clutch lever or gear?
It defines a clutch, control, transmission or load evidence route but does not prove plates, a basket, bearing or gear. Stop for drive-control change, unintended movement, locking or grinding.
Why does vibration increase with road speed?
Tyre, pressure, wheel, spokes, brakes, chain/sprockets, guards, body, suspension and load can overlap. Do not coast with the engine off or perform a risky road test. Handling change stops normal riding.
What if noise or vibration occurs while braking?
Use the brake and wheel safety route. Weakness, pulling, grabbing, long travel, heat, leakage, grinding or control pulsation requires inspection before normal riding.
What causes a rattle over bumps?
Body, stand, exhaust, guards, fasteners, suspension, luggage, wheel and impact conditions can overlap. Do not tighten everything by guess or continue with a loose, detached or contacting part.
Should I adjust tappets or the drive chain?
Not from noise alone. These are separate systems with exact-model data. Never use an external drive-chain setting for an internal timing/cam-chain concern or adjust tappets by sound.
What if it began after service or a part change?
Preserve the complaint, job card, oil/part identity, work, settings and fasteners touched, and the before/after recheck. Do not keep readjusting or replacing parts before inspection.
What if ICON e has unusual motor, battery or charging noise?
Use the electric route. Stop for warning, smoke, heat, odour, damage, arcing, locking, grinding or loss of drive. Do not transfer petrol-engine diagnoses.
Does the finder record audio or save information?
No. It has no microphone access or audio recording and stores or transmits nothing. It routes observations and sources; it does not diagnose or authorize use or repair.
Steering and suspension boundary
A handlebar or chassis vibration can become a control-safety route.
For wobble, pulling, notchy steering, fork leakage, harsh or bottoming front response, rear bounce, impact or recent tyre and wheel work, use the exact-model steering and suspension finder. Do not perform a hands-off test or convert the feel into an automatic bearing, fork or shock repair.
Gear and drive-control boundary
A shift clunk or grind can become a drive-safety route.
For a stuck or hard gear, false neutral, gear jump, creep, non-returning lever or unexpected drive, use the exact-model gear-shifting finder. Do not repeat a shift, release the clutch to unjam it or convert the sound into an automatic clutch or gearbox diagnosis.

Electrical sound overlap
A buzz, click or changing electrical load is not a sound-based parts verdict.
When noise coincides with dimming, flicker, fuse loss, weak horn, failed lighting or a warning change, use the exact-model electrical route. Record the complete affected group and operating state without bridging, direct battery feed, stand revving or a guessed relay, regulator or stator.
